Workers board up a Matteson home today after an elderly man was killed and his wife was injured when fire swept through their home.

Matteson fire investigators think smoking may have started a blaze that claimed the life of a 93-year-old man and injured his 85-year-old wife Sunday night. A neighbor was able to rescue Coveace Johnson from her home, but Willie Johnson could not be saved, and he died later from his injuries.
